Japanese Fast Food with the Most Protein
Something that might not come to mind when you think about Japan is fast-food. Today we are going there, but not just any fast-food. We are talking about fast-food with the most protein.
It's Friday night after a long week. You are on the train after finishing your workout and you realize you have nothing left in your fridge other than 30 eggs and 6 liters of milk. Then your friend just messaged you, telling you to come to the local Hub and grab a beer. Fuck it. You are just going to grab something quick to eat. This is what fast food is for after all.
Ok, but what do you choose? You may go to Hub, but you workout and still have some decency. This means you probably care somewhat about the protein content of your next meal. However, since you are going to Hub, you probably have no idea how to read Japanese and can't read the menu choices for your fast food washoku.
So we choose one item from each menu of popular fast-food restaurants in Japan (ones that had nutritional charts available) that had the most protein. This is your weightlifter's guide for Japanese fast-food with the most protein.
8. Mister Donut
チョコチュロ
Chocolate churro
282 calories
4.5g protein
17.5g fat
26.1g carbs
Ahh, mister donut. The Dunken of Japan but with actual donuts. You can get a hot dog here or something like that and it will clearly be the highest protein item but that's boring. You don't go to Mister Donut to eat a hot dog, you psychopath. Now go order 15 chocolate churros to get your morning protein intake.
7. MOS Burger
ダブルモスチーズバーガー
Double Mos Cheeseburger
566 calories
27.3g protein
29.9g fat
47.3g carbs
I'm in the belief that you either love Mos Burger and all other fast-food burger joints are trash or you don't eat here. I'm personally in the second camp but this is Mos Burgers' highest protein menu item. It just can't stand up to its American friend, McDonald's with that puny amount of protein. Bonus points if you know what M.O.S. stands for in Mos Burger.
6. Sukiya
きのこペペロンチーノ牛丼チーズおんたまMix
Mushroom Peperoncino Beef Bowl Cheese Ontama Mix
992 calories
40.9g protein
43.6g fat
109.3g carbs
This is just the regular size. You can upgrade to the mega-size with over 72g of protein. I'm not sure if that is cheating or not so we decided to go with the regular size for all items if they had multiple sizes. You should probably upgrade though since 41 grams of protein is barely enough to grow chest hair.
5. McDonald's
倍ダブルチーズバーガー
Quadruple Cheeseburger
655 calories
42.0g protein
40.1g fat
31.4g carbs
2 patties, 2 pieces of cheese and 4 burger patties. A simple burger with a lot of meat. The fat is just starting to approach the same amount of protein. Imagine eating a spoon of whey protein, and then a spoon of oil. Now technically the giant size fry at McDonald's has the most protein but we are not counting that.
4. Kourakuen
味噌野菜たんめんプレミアムこってり
Rich premium Chinese-syle stir-fried vegetable miso noodle soup
1657 calories
50.7g protein
107.9g fat
119g carbs
I can't believe something with the word vegetable in it is so unhealthy. Thank god it has a nice thick piece of pork on top of it to rescue it. After eating this.. you are going to want to divorce yourself from anything else with salt in it for the next three days. Let's not forget about the liquid pig fat the noodles are swimming in. There is over 107g of fat in this bowl of ramen. All that for only 50g of protein. Might need some extra pork toppings.
3. CoCo Ichibanya
ポーク三昧カレー
Pork Zanmai Curry
1,849 calories
56.8g protein
104.3g fat
156.7g carbs
This pork curry is a gluttonous monstrosity like the pigs Chihiro's parents turn into at the beginning of Spirited away. The dishes' fat content starts to eclipse the protein. I'm not sure if I have ever eaten anything fattier than this dish. You will also get your daily calories worth too. You should also go see a doctor.
2. Kappazushi
イチ推し超絶海鮮丼
The best transcending seafood bowl
1022 calories
61g protein
22.8g fat
134g carbs
牛Kingの肉三昧
Three flavors of beef nigiri
175 calories
7.4g protein
7.7g fat
18.1g carbs
はまち
Yellowtail nigiri
127 calories
7g protein
5.4g fat
11.4g carbs
We have three entries for Kappazushi. The three flavors of beef nigiri are straight-up gangster. I can't imagine how much teeth sucking went on when someone purposed putting 3 pieces of beef on rice like sushi. I'm sure it was a long time though. We also included the standard 100 yen plate sushi with the most protein and that was hamachi or yellowtail. The last is a bowl of rice with half the ocean on top of it. This is actually a great option for a post-workout meal. With over 60 grams of protein, 23 grams of fat and over 1000 calories makes a great bodybuilding meal. It's also less than 700 yen.
1. KFC
五穀味鶏プレミアムローストチキン
Gokoku rub premium-roast chicken
1652 calories
209.8g protein
84.8g fat
13.8g carbs
Taking the number one spot is probably the most expensive fast-food item of all time. With 210g of protein and a special rub made from 5 different types of grains, this isn't for you poor people. You poor people go get your same size 700 yen chicken at Costco. Only 700 yen, pft. Does your Costco Chicken have the word premium in it? No? That's right, this is for the high rollers. This is for the shachos. This is an almost 6000 yen (~$60) roast chicken. Who cares if you can buy a Costco membership and 3 roast chickens there for the price of this roast chicken. This is a status symbol. This is the Gucci of chicken and KFC's premium-roast chicken is the supreme overlord of high-protein fast-food in Japan.
Conclusion:
I'm not sure if I just created a monstrosity or not but please use this list to fulfill your post-workout protein needs and guide you down the path of mukimukiness.
